Code
February was a big month for me. I got my first freelance R programming gig. I’m getting paid to write R code, and it’s great. I’m not getting paid much, but I am learning a ton to do my job, and at this point, I consider that a worthwhile tradeoff and investment.
Tom MacWright put some of his GitHub repos up for adoption, and I adopted simple-statistics-py. It’s a baby implementation of simple-statistics in python.
I’m not sure what I will do with it yet. Python is one of the top languages of choice for doing data science/analysis, so there are already libraries that do stats. But there is some value in me writing my own from nothing but raw or almost-raw python. For one, it means I have to really understand how those methods work. That is invaluable. So I’m excited about that.

“Symbol of Life” by Paradise Lost (2002)
This is not a new album to me, but I hadn’t listened to it in a while.
I recommend Xavier, their incredible cover of the Dead Can Dance version.
